How Superfocus Works

Superfocus glasses achieve continuous, and virtually instantaneous, adjustable focus by emulating the focusing action of the youthful human eye.

Nearest each eye is a lightweight (approximately 6 gm!), yet robust, adjustable focus assembly. This consists of a precision polycarbonate ophthalmic lens, together with a transparent polymer membrane. The pocket between them holds a small quantity of an inert and crystal clear optical fluid. As the wearer moves a slider on the bridge, the lens pivots, rapidly displacing a small quantity of fluid and thereby “inflating” the membrane. This “inflation” changes the focal length of the assembly, mimicking the natural way in which adjustable optical ADD occurs in the youthful human eye.

Two outer (Z80.1 compliant) ophthalmic lenses provide the wearer’s distance correction: sphere, cylinder and, if needed, prism. These lenses can be removed for cleaning ...or interchanged with appropriately tinted Rx lenses for contrast enhancement or protection from glare.

“The glasses are fantastic! I used them while driving, working on my computer, reading small print and watching TV. The ability to adjust the focus is just incredible and is a great improvement over the progressive glasses that I wear.”- BD
